Last week, I posted a message on LinkedIn regarding the fact that I had Windows 365 Link devices for testing and evaluation. The message received significant attention, being viewed nearly ๐ฎ๐ฌ,๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐๐ถ๐บ๐ฒ๐. ๐ฎ (https://lnkd.in/e-PqbQGG) It appears that Windows 365 Link devices are hot and happening.
Today, I will discuss a few initial observations from working with the Windows 365 Link for several hours in the past days.
Preparation is key when it comes to enrolling Windows 365 Link devices. Before you begin, it is -as always- essential to make sure that policies are in place for the Windows 365 Link device. Doing so ensures a seamless and efficient integration, which saves time and avoids potential issues during the enrollment process.
For instance, by default the Windows 365 Link device is not automatically updating the time zone of the device. You need to configure a CSP policy in Microsoft Intune to allow the device to update it. Another example I had that the device updated itself while I was in a Teams meeting. So I might want to configure also some update policies. ๐
In the coming weeks, I will dive deeper into the configuration options via Microsoft Intune and ensure that I complete the necessary preparations before enrolling the device. Stay tuned for more updates.
Like mentioned in the earlier post, the password-less experience is excellent. Enrolling the device with a Fido2 key is straightforward. While there was concern about the limited USB ports (one USB-C and three USB-3) making Fido2 keys less user-friendly, Device Bound Passkeys work just fine without the need for a Fido2 key. The Windows 365 Link device is equipped with Bluetooth which allows you to use Passkeys stored in the Microsoft Authenticator app to login to the device.
Lastly, the device is very fast. It boots quickly, connects to the Cloud PC rapidly after logging in, and pressing the โpower buttonโ on the device instantly disconnects the session.
